Good quality tropical deciduous forest ("bosque
tropical caducifolio"? no .es bosq. mesofilo) ;
leading dominants in descending order acc. to
frequency: Acacia acatlensis (tallest tree) ,
Prunus cortapico (2nd in basal area) , Oreopanax,
Trichilia havanensis, Erythrina, Cnidoscolus;
other tree spp.: Bursera simaruba, Rapanea.
Pouzolzia, Ficus lapathifolla; shrubs (high in
diversity and density) : Xylosma, Montanoa. Chi-
ococca alba, Bouvardia loeaeneriana. Alstonia
longifolia, Prunus cortapico^ Euphorbia cotinl-
folia; vines (exceedingly high content) : Pasai-
flora podadenia, P. filipes, Vitis, Parthenocis-
sus, Cissampelos, Nissolia, Wimmeria, Ipomoea,
Mandevilla, Gouania, Melothria, Serjania, etc.;
prevalent groundlayer spp.: Las- lacis nigra.
Panicum arundinariae, Bonplandia geainiflora,
Hymenocallis, Commelina, Phenax, Eupatorium -g
oerstedianum, and many ferns (Adiantum poiretii.
Campyloneuron angustum. Pleopeltis angusta. Pel-
laea. Polypodium. Phlebodium, Pecluma, Asplenium),
Middle slope on steep W edge ofCERRD GRANDE, a mas-
sive limestone plateau 18-50 kmNW of Colima. over-

Stand 38, actual quantitative data:
undisturbed; Chusquea was in bloom. Exposure:
W; slope: 65%, 70%. Six poorly defined strata:
herbs, shrubs, saplings, subcanopy, canopy,
emergents (very rare) ; 26 total woody spp. pre-
sent (of greater than 1 in. diam.) ; Chamaedorea
pochutlensis reaching its highest altitudinal
limit and surprisingly abundant. Leading dom-
inants (also canopy trees) : Acacia acatlensis -
I.V. 14.24. Prunus cortapico-8.96, Oreopanax
xalapensis-8.12; secondarily important (subcan-
opy): Pipholis-5.98. Liabumaff. broomeae-4.0L
Erythrina lanata-3.95. Russelia (5-6mtain-
3.14, Trichilia glabra-3.00: understorv: Mon-
tanoa (ande'rgonii?)-4.05. Chamaedorea p.-4.00.
