The New York Botanical Garden Plants of Ecuador Araceae Philodendron sparreorum Croat Ecuador. Esmeraldas. Along road between San Lorenzo and Mataje (departing main Lita-San Lorenzo Hwy., 11.6 Km N of Gasolinera San Lorenzo); 1.4 Km W of main Lita-San Lorenzo Road. 1°14'42"N, 78°45,26',W. Elev. 63 m. Hemiepiphyte; intemodes 3.5-4.5 cm diam., gray-brown; cataphylls pale green, sharply 2-ribbed, deciduous; petioles obtusely flattened adaxially, medium yellow-green, weakly glossy, obtusely angular and purplish near tip; blades subcoriaceous, semiglossy, moderately bicolorous; major veins sunken and paler above; midrib narrowly rounded and tinged purplish below; primary lateral veins thickly convex and weakly tinged purplish below; minor veins visible but not distinct; inflorescences 3 per aixl; spathe medium green on tube outside, pale green and glossier within, the blade slightly paler, yellow-green outside, whitish inside, the entire spathe turning orange, finally brownish red.
