In forest predominantly oak; deep shade;
humus underlain by clay loam. A straggling
undergrowth tree 20 feet high. Base diameter
nearly £ inches. Bark greenish gray and s
smooth. West exposure. Leaves coorugated
on both surfaces, soft and woolly* Catkins
green, reaching more than 100 mm. without
the pedicels. Only example noticed*
