Elev. 1500 -1650 m. Open scrub, trees to 8 m;
moist slopes, small plateaus. Sandstone talus and
boulders. Terrestrial to 4 m; locally abundant;
stems dark purple. Leaves dark green.

ClusiOy Melastomataceae, Malpighiaceae, Arecaceae,
and Asteraceae dominants. Occasional bamboo
thickets. Flower deep pink; lip pinkish purple,
inner surface mixed white and purple; nectar
guides black; column white and pink; capsules
purple.
