creek at 760 feet; stem 6 inches thick, 80 feet high or
less, branched from below the middle; wood rather solid,
reddish brown toward the center, odorless and tasteless;
bark smooth, mottled, dark reddish brown beneath the epidermis;
malm branches widely spreading, laxly rebranched; leaves
submembranous, flat or only the tips recurred, deep green

long, with flowers scattered all along;
pistillate flowers solitary, terminal or subterminal, green,
subpendulous, the 3 styles or stigmas nearly an inch long,
