  • Habitat

    Plentiful on grassy hillsides. Not growing in open grassy meadows as P. procerus does. With Castilleja, an annual Polemonium, Helenium hoopsi, Artemisia tridentata, etc.

  • Description

    Inflorescence of 1 to 5 or 6 whorls of red-purple or blue-purple flowers. (Colored as the California preocerus.) Considerable variation in flower size and color, doubtfully genetic differences. Phenology of specimen: Flower.
