A floodplain forest, dominated by Acer neaundo. occurs west of the Upper Iowa
River and east of a gravel road. It is located within a unit of the Upper Iowa
Access, owned by the Iowa Department of Natural Resources. The forest is
approximately 1.5 miles east of Decorah and across the road from Freeport
Marsh (owned by Luther College of Decorah). The forest is on the Paleozoic
Plateau.
There are 200+ ramets, with some vegetative while others have fruits. The
collection comes from a ramet about 2 meters tall. Napaea dioica is
associated with Carex sp., Rhamnus davurica. Rudbeckia laciniata. Solidaao
canadensis and Thalictrum dasvcarpum.
