  • Location

United States of America. Missouri. Montgomery Co. Graham Cave State Park.

  • Habitat

woods - hardwoods & conifers. Moisture conditions: moist. needle duff.

  • Description

spore length: 12 microns; spore width: 8 microns; spore shape: angular - ellipsoid; spore texture: smooth; spore color: clear; spore print color: salmon pink. Found under cedar trees in soil. The blue-green (teal) staining of the white mycelium coated base when bruised and the almost iridescent color attracted me immediately. The odor is strong, as ''Mushrooms of Leptonia incana.Northeastern North America'' states, '' . . . like rancid buttered popcorn''. The Spore Print was taken directly on a glass slide because of the dry condition of the mushroom. Close examination by Dr. Methven (see annotation above) confirmed that this specimen is Leptonia incana.
