spore length: 4.25 microns; spore width: 2.75 microns; spore shape: elliptical; spore texture: smooth; spore color: clear, hyaline; spore print color: white. The crownlike tips, color and peppery taste, noted in Audubon Society field guide, lent itself to the creditability of the classification.
