Description
spore length: 5 - 7 microns; spore width: 3.5 - 5 microns; spore shape: broadly elliptical; spore texture: smooth; spore color: clear; spore print color: white. Also called Polyporus frondosus. This choice edible is often hard to differentiate from the fallen leaves that are usually around it. It can be found for many years at the same spot or in the same area, often in clusters 10-20'' wide, weighing 5 to 100 pounds. Close examination by Dr. Methven (see annotation above) combined with the 2015 DNA analysis confirmed that this specimen is Grifola frondosa.
