Description
spore length: 19 - 22.5 microns; spore width: 10 - 12.5 microns; spore shape: broadly elliptical; spore texture: smooth - clusters of oil drops, 2 major drops; spore color: clear; spore print color: n/d. Deep, bright red cup with white outer surface. Found on small, dead twigs on steep, hilly ground. Unable to obtain a spore print due to the small nature of the species. Specimen was placed directly on a glass slide to obtain the spore photos. Close examination by Dr. Methven (see annotation above) combined with the 2015 DNA analysis confirmed that this specimen is Sarcoscypha occidentalis.
