The 2 bracts of each portion of the catkin are fused
together forming a somewhat bell-shaped hairy structure*
From this arise 2 clusters or cymes of flowers of 3*
Each flower is slightly exserted from the bract; its 4
sepals are linear, very pale yellowish green or grayish,
the tips of the sepals remain united and the 4 sepals are
exserted in the gaps; backs of sepals hairy, but espec-
ially so at the tips.
