Reedsport 7.5 ' quad., T. 21 S., R. 12 W., sect. 36 East Gardiner, RR trestle (raised bed) at RR bridge, N of Blacks Island, at mouth of Smith River; ca. 1.0 km E of US Rt. 101,1 km NE of Reedsport at Umpqua River junction. Elev. 0-2 m. Coast Range Ecoregion. Disturbed wet soil, gravel. Upper marsh above high tides; bordered by secondary forest; choked with large drift logs. Infrequent shrub 2-2.5 m tall, fruit pale green; each with pubescent fragile papery shell, inside translucent-mucilaginous fleshy pulp with seeds imbedded; fruit clusters pendulous; stem tinted reddish-purple, leaves leathery, paler beneath.
