Virgin tropical evergreen forest.

Slender shrub 3.5 m. tall, 2 cm. in diameter, with Trophis
caucana along now dry rocky streambed on steep slopes,
partially shaded. Evidently monoecious, but very few male
inflorescences seen; female inflorescences pendant or
mostly at a ca. 45° angle below the horizontal, axillary from
leaf bases or a few defoliated nodes below.
