Sebastian, 40km S of Concepcion on road to
Lomerio (16°25'S;62°00'W) 450m. Margin of
tertiary plain and low hills of precambrian
shield, laterite and granitic outcrops
common; mosaic of semideciduous forest,
wooded savanna and savanna wetland.
Terrestrial, leaves radial from a stout
(6cm in Diam) fleshy stem protected by
persistant leaf bases; stems branched;
infl. on stout peduncles (1.5m) from base
of plant; calyx orange, perianth yellow
with a green tip. Forming large colonies
on flat or gently sloping surfaces of
granite outcrops.
