AGAVACEAE OF ARIZONA Agave utahensis Engelmann ssp. kaibabensis (McKelvey) Gentry COCONINO COUNTY. Grand Canyon National Park, off Tanner Trail, ca 1/4 mile down and north of trailhead, in Kaibab limestone formation, 36DEG 02'02" N lat, 111DEG 49'48" W long, 6800 ft, 2072 m. N-facing cliff edge, with Shepherdia rotundifolia, Ephedra, Artemesia ludoviciana, Penstemon rostriflorus, Opuntia polyacantha, Juniperus scopulorum, Pinus edulis, Psilostrophe, Yucca baccata, Penstemon palmeri, P. barbatus. Infrequent, rosette single, leaves dense, deep green, heavily armed, inflorescence 5.5 m tall, 12-13 cm diam, peduncles going almost 2/3 down stalk, ovary and tube light yellow- chartreuse, inside white, tepals light yellow, strongly clasping, filaments and style white, filaments strongly divergent out of tepals, anthers dark yellow? meas. after Gentry (1982), in mm, during (first meas.) , post-dehiscent (2nd meas.) : tl=29, n=7, 0=9x5, tu=2.5xl0, tep=10x5 (outer), 10x7 (inner), fi ins at base of tube, fil-22, a=3+2, sty=18, not receptive? tl=29, n=6, 0=10x5.5, tu=3xl0, tep=12x5, 11x7, fi ins at base of tube, fil =21, a=3+2, sty=20, not receptive.
