RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN Plants of Orange County, California, USA RHAMNACEAE Rhamnus californica Esch. Southern Santa Ana Mountains, San Mateo Canyon Wilderness Area. Western edge of the wilderness in Lucas Canyon from crossing of creek by Lucas Canyon Trail, downstream to confluence with Aliso Canyon, T7S R6W Nl/2 SE1/4 sec. 9. Elev. 900' -11001. Slopes with mixed chaparral of Adenostoma fasciculatum, Ceanothus crassifolius, Quercus dumosa, and Heteromeles arbutifolia, with scattered patches of coastal sage scrub of Artemisia californica, Eriogonum fasciculatum, and Salvia mellifera. Canyon bottoms with riparian vegetation of Platanus racemosa, Quercus agrifolia, and Baccharis salicifolia. Common shrub in oak woodland and adjacent mesic chaparral.
