Tree; grove of ~15 individuals; 2.5-13 cm calipers; branches reddish with gray lenticels and bloom; leaves pale green on abaxial surface; petioles red; catkin yellow; growing with Quercus alba, Q. rubra, Kalmia latifolia, Gaylussacia baccata, Deschampsia flexuosa and Vaccinium angustifolium.
