  • Description

    Pileus 3-6 cm broad, convex to plano-convex, dry, subtomentose to matted subtomentose, cocoa brown (6E5) overall at first, then cinnamon brown (6D5) with subtle rosy pink tints especially toward margin, eventually light brown (5C-D4) without rosy pink tints. Flesh dark red under pileus surface, otherwise white, very slowly discoloring but not a match, up to 1 cm thick, with mild odor and taste. Tubes deeply depressed around stipe, up to 1 cm deep, yellowish white (4A2) at first, eventually a grayish brown (6C4), unchanging, with pores a pale rosy pink when young, soon near flesh color (6A-B3), eventually staining a pale brown, <1 mm broad. Stipe 6-9 cm long, 8-11 mm broad, equal to barely subclavate, white with fine, rosy pinkscabers overall, eventually the scabers a duller pink to gray with age, with chrome to cadmium yellow (3-4A8) base, with interior white, changing as in pileus above, with light blue green change in mid-stipe, cadmium yellow in the base. Phenology of specimen: Basidiomata.
