  • Georeferencing Method

    Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Unable to determine which direction "inland about 2 km" should be; instead, georeferenced to the shore of Rio Madeira approximately 2 km south of the confluence of Rio Madeira and Rio Abunã in Manoa, Bolivia (very nearby the Bolivian-Brazilian border). Using Google Maps - Earth View, located the confluence of Rio Madeira and Rio Abunã. Beginning at the approximate geographic center of the confluence of the rivers, used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure approximately 2 km (2.00 km) southward along Rio Madeira (along the stretch of the western shore), then used the Google Map - What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the offset along the shore. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool again to find the linear extent of the starting location, the mouth of the river, by measuring from the selected coordinates to the farthest extent of the confluence of the rivers. Input coordinates, linear extent (1.18 km), measurement error (0.005 km), and distance precision (1 km) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius. Added 2 km to the uncertainty radius to account for the added uncertainty of the additional offset distance without direction. Coordinates are located in Bolivia.
