No. 7623, collected April 7, abont a mile east of Caliente, Kern county, in a field in adobe soil. This has larger as well as paler flowers than any other species in the genus, but become darker in drying. In our specimens the forks of the filaments seem to be somewhat recurved. The scabrous roughness is very pronounced.
