Glenville (north), west side of North Carolina Route 107, 7.0 miles by road north of junction with U.S. Route 64 (Cashiers). East side of Shoal Mountain at narrows, east-facing rocky slopes. Elevation about 3500 feet. Metamorphic bedrock, granitic gneiss; slope in humus and sandy loam, ledges and very large boulders. Mesic upland forest, Quercus, Halesia, Rhododendron maximum, Tsuga canadensis, Pinus strobus, Magnolia fraseri. Rather common robust evergreen fern in shade; in moist to dry humus among boulders.
