Habitat
Second growth forest of former farmland, on rocky, slightly hilly terrain. Betula allegheniensis, B. lenta, Quercus spp., Acer rubrum, A. saccharum, Carpinus caroliniana, Pinus strobus.

Description
Herbs, spreading by slender light brown rhizomes, forming patches along edge of lawn and shrubbery, becoming weedy; stem bases purple; plant slightly umbelliferous aromatic; petals white, nearly finished flowering.
