. No. 7610, collected April 7, on rocks at the first railroad
Crossing of ?the creek west of Caliente, Kern county. It is very
abundant all through, that part of the country, literally covering
the rocks in many places£n©tably on the ridges about the mouth
of Kern canyon. This species is perhaps more abundant in the
southern part of th e State,, where it was originally collected by
Bigelow, but is^alsso plentiful east of San Jose, Santa Clara
county, on the ii^ge« above Alum Rock Park. It is easily dis-
tinguished from the \other species by its slender, rather long
branches.
