RANCHO SANTA ANA BOTANIC GARDEN Flora of Los Angeles County, California, U.S.A. Onagraceae Gayophytum heterozygum Lewis & Szweykowski SAN GABRIEL MTNS: Summit of Condor Peak. Condor Peak 7.5' USGS quadrangle; near 34° 19'31 "N 118o13'08"W; elev. ca 5400-5445 feet. Delicate annual, localized on decomposed granite flat with Penstemon centranthifolius\ petals ca 3-3.5 mm long, white drying pink. Associated locally with Quercus chrysolepis, Q. wislizeni, Polystichum imbricans curium, Tauschia arguta, Eriastrum densifolium austromontanum, Penstemon grinnellii, Keckiella ternata, Adenostoma fasciculatum, Bromus grandis, Stipa coronata, Ceanothus cordulatus (relictual here; only 2 plants seen), etc. Tim Ross 6719 17 July 1992 Ill-fated hike from Mendenhall Ridge to the mouth of Breakneck Canyon; botanical survey for the Forest Service.
