Rocky crossing waterfalls in wet sclerophyll forest, 32°07'S, 151°29'E, ca. 450 m alt. On siliceous rocks beside stream. Associated lichens include *Porpidia albocaerulescens* and *Xanthoparmelia* spp. 22.VI.1991, H.T. Lumbsch & R.B. Filson (CBG-Holotypus). Planta saxicola. Amphithecium crystalla magna minutaque continens. Parathecium hyalinum, crystalla minuta continens, ca. 10 µm crassum. Epihymenium nec inspersum, neque granulosum, fusco-brunneum. Cortex 25 µm crassum. Hymenium hyalinum, 65-85 µm altum. Hypothecium hyalinum. Paraphyses septatae, ca. 1.5-2 µm crassae. Asci clavati, 50-70 x 10-18 µm. Sporae hyalinae, non-septatae, ellipsoideae, (9)-10.5-13.5-(15.5) x (5.5)-7.5-8.5-(9.5) µm. Pycnidia non visa. Thallus et apothecia atranorinum, chloroatranorinum, zeorinum et alium continentia. (Figs. 1-6) Thallus crustose, uniform, whitish to yellowish white or greyish white, continuous or dispersed verrucose to verruculose, epruinose; margin indefinite or definite, sometimes with a whitish prothallus. Apothecia sessile or often constricted at the base, 0.6-1.8 mm diam.; disks very dark brown to brown-black; margins smooth to verruculose or verrucose, prominent. Amphithecium with large crystals, but also small KOH-soluble crystals abundant. Parathecium hyaline, with small KOH-soluble crystals, bright whitish in polarized light, ca. 10 µm thick. Epihymenium *glabrata* type (Brodo 1984), without crystals, with a 2 µm high hyaline layer above, dark in polarized light, pigmented dark brown to brown. Cortex 25 µm thick. Hymenium hyaline, 65-85 µm high. Hypothecium hyaline. Paraphyses septate, ca. 1.5-2 µm thick, only slightly thickened at the apices. Asci clavate, 50-70 x 10-18 µm. Spores hyaline, non-septatae, ellipsoid, (9)-10.5-13.5-(15.5) x (5.5)-7.5-8.5-(9.5) µm. Pycnidia not seen. Chemistry: Atranorin and zeorin as major compounds, unknown triterpenoids as minor and chloroatranorin sometimes present as minor, sometimes only in traces by HPLC and TLC. Etymology: The new species is named in honour of Dr. Bruce W. Hayward and Glenys Hayward (Auckland, New Zealand), who contributed much to the knowledge of lichens in New Zealand by their extensive collections and floristic publications. They collected more than a half of the known specimens of the new species. MYCOTAXON Volume XLV, pp. 473-488 October-December 1992 COMMENTS ON THE EXSICCAT "LECANOROID LICHENS" I H.T. LUMBSCH and G.B. FEIGE Botanisches Institut, Universität Essen, Postfach 103 764, D-4300 Essen 1, Germany. Abstract: The first fascicle of a new lichen exsiccat "Lecanoroid Lichens" is being issued by the Botanical Institute, University of Essen, Germany. Some remarks on the taxonomy, nomenclature and chemistry of the distributed species are given. *Lecanora haywardiorum* Lumbsch *Lecanora haywardiorum* *Porpidia albocaerulescens* *Xanthoparmelia* OCR Engine: OCR_Gemini_1_5_Flash
