NEW YORK BOTANICAL HERBARIUM OF FRANCIS DROUET Q^RDEN Texas > dense mesquite forest 22 miles north of Brownsville, Cameron county- ill Apr* 15UU Robert Runyon NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEH NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN Phormidium monile Setchell & Gardner, ap. nov. Proc.Calif.Acad.3ei.lv.19:119. pi. 4. f. 2. 30 D 1930. Filaments relatively very long, straight or flexu- ous, 7-8 u diam.; triohomes 3.5-4 n diam.; cells quad- rate, deefly constricted, at the cross-walls, pale aeru- ginous; terminal cell blunt, rounded, sometimes even con- siderably enlarged; sheath conspicuous, hyaline, smooth, distinct, not diffluent. Intermixed with various other Myxophyceae• Type: No. 173633, Herb. Calif., Acad. Sci., collected by H. L. Mason (No. 95), in April, at Guadalupe Island. When scattered filaments are encountered, the im- pression is given of a Lyngbya, but, at times, small layers are seen, when the long, parallel, and closely placed fila- ments show the Phormidium character. The distinctness of the sheaths separate this dearly from Ph. hormoides S. and G., of the central Californian coast. 02663302 02663302
