T14N R44E S20 SW 1/4 III 44.52329° N -111.28702° W [WGS84] ± 500 m. <estimate from BioGeomancer> The nonrhizomatous versus rhizomatous distinction between P. palustris and P. pratensis can be confusing. 1 have found that, for my area at least, the character of inflorescence size is often, though not always, more clearly marked. The inflorescence of P. palustris is generally about 17 cm, the shortest measurement I have made being 14.5 cm. By contrast, P. pratensis averages about 8 cm, the longest measurement being 13 cm. Voucher: Whitehead, G.S. 1983. M.S., Idaho State U. Associated with Pinus contorta, Prunus virginiana, Sorbus scopulina, and P. nervosa; or with Iliamna rivularis, Tragopogón dubius, and Bromus inermis; or with Artemisia tridentata, Agropyron dasystachyum, Eriogonum umbellatum, and Festuca idahoensis.
