In gravelly (quartzite) soil on SE-facing slope with Artemisia.
Juniperus & Ericameria. Plants perennial from taproot & usually
simple caudex; leaves mostly basal, lyrate-pinnatifid, arachnoid
tomentose to glabrescent; heads erect in bud; phyllaries not black-
tipped, to 6 mm long; ray florets pistillate, the ligules yellow; disc
corollas to 6 mm long; pappus of numerous capillary bristles.
