Rocky soil of west-facing trailbanks in broken sun or open shade; ridge. With mosaic of pen grassy Quercus agrifolia forest, Bromus grassland and patches of Artemisia-Mimulus shrubland; lower canyonside with Quercus-Umbellaria forest. Bark of Alnus.
