Georeferencing Method
Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Version 2012. Assumed the area "behind" Pontal do Sul to be the forest in the west to northwest direction, based on the geography of Pontal do Sul (directions: north, east, and south would plot in the Atlantic Ocean) and similar locality descriptions. Located the nearest named place to Pontal do Sul in this direction, Paranaguá (located northwest). Georeferenced to the area northwest of the city of Pontal do Sul, Mun. Pontal do Paraná, Paraná. Used Google Maps - Earth and Map Views to locate the city of Pontal do Sul and the nearest named place in the northwestern direction, Paranaguá. Used the Google Maps - Measure Distance Tool to measure a straight line between the approximate geographic center of Pontal do Sul (-25.578029, -48.367732) and the approximate geographic center of Paranaguá (-25.540512, -48.533139), then halved this distance to find the midpoint. Used the Google Maps – What's Here Tool to find the coordinates of the approximate midpoint between the two cities, used the halved distance as the linear extent. Input coordinates, coordinate precision (.00001 degrees), datum (WGS84), linear extent (8555.0 m), and measurement error (5 m) into the MaNIS Georeferencing Calculator to find the uncertainty radius (according to the Georeferencing Quick Reference Guide, Offset: Direction only, no distance).
