Plants variable in habit, from erect and subvirgate to decum-
bent-spreadingor even distinctly prostrate, arising from a slender
deep-seated rootstock. Stems dark green to madder brown. Flowers
strongly hay-scented.
Widely scattered over dry grassland, favoring thinner
stands of Agropyron Smithii, as individuals or small patches,
mesa at foot of Flagstaff Mountain, Boulder, Boulder Coun-
ty, Colorado.
