ASTERACEAE
Herbs to 30in tall, usually less, leaves blue-green, flowers
yellow, heads close by mid-afternoon; common. In a partly
sunny opening in a young 2nd-growth wooded thicket, in
moist sandy soil (an old sand pit). Growing with Acer
rubrum, Anthoxanthum sp., Baptisia tinctoria, Betula
populifolia, Bromus inermis (rare), Carex pensylvanica,
Celastrus orbiculatus, Cerastium sp., Clethra alnifolia,
Comptonia peregrina, Dactylis glomerata, Danthonia spicata,
Elytrigia repens, Fragaria virginica, Gaultheria procumbens,
Helianthemum sp., Hieracium gronovii, Hypericum
perforatum, Juncus tenuis, Lechea sp., Lespedeza capitata,
Linaria canadensis, Lysimachia quadrifolia, Maianthemum
canadense, Parthenocissus sp., Phleum pratense, Pinus
strobus, Poa nemoralis, Polytrichum commune (?), Populus
grandidentata, Potentilla argentea, P. simplex (?), Prunus
pensylvanica, P. serotina, Pteridium aquilinum, Quercus
