Description
Trunk 13 m. tall, 15 cm. in diameter, not reaching the ground, supported by 11 major stilt roots reaching to 2 m. high in an open cone, some larger trees here with up to 18 stilt roots to 3 m. high; trunk smooth, only moderately hard, with thin band of black fibers on outside. Crown with 6 green leaves plus a spear; palmito [palm heart] bitter, not even eaten by collared peccary!; crown shaft green, 1.15 m. long; petiole 15 cm. long; rachis 2 m. long; leaflets 17 per side, at various angles, the tip plane, the leaflets splitting into several with age, the tips drooping whatever the orientation of the leaflets. Inflorescence past flowering, from node below lowest leaf; spathes thin, light brown, soon shed; peduncle 30 cm. long.
