± 500 m. <estimate from BioGeomancer>
The nonrhizomatous versus rhizomatous distinction between P.
palustris and P. pratensis can be confusing. I have found that,
for my area at least, the character of inflorescence of P.
palustris is generally about 17 cm, the shortest measurement I
have made being 14.5 cm. By contrast, P. pratensis averages
about 8 cm, the longest measurement being 13 cm. Voucher:
Whitehead, G.S. 1983. M.S., Idaho State U.
Associated with Cirsium arvense, Aster chilensis, and Potentilla
biennis; or with Populus trichocarpa, Salix spp., and Solidago
missouriensis.
