Distribution
Ray J Davis Herbarium, Idaho Museum of Natural History [IDS] IDAHO, U.S.A. Flora of the Island Park Geothermal Study Area Poa palustris L. det. by Gordon S. Whitehead, 24 JUL 1978, FPNW FREMONT CO. Site 132. Brush community between U.S. Highway 191 and the Snake River just south of the Osborne Bridge; Elevation 1950m. Clearcuts, roadsides, meadows, open woods, and streambanks. T11NR42ES1 NW 1/4///44.3169° N-111.45268° W [WGS84] ± 500 m. <estimate from BioGeomancer> The nonrhizomatous versus rhizomatous distinction between P. palustris and P. pratensis can be confusing. I have found that, for my area at least, the character of inflorescence of P. palustris is generally about 17 cm, the shortest measurement I have made being 14.5 cm. By contrast, P. pratensis averages about 8 cm, the longest measurement being 13 cm. Voucher: Whitehead, G.S. 1983. M.S., Idaho State U. Associated with Cirsium arvense, Aster chilensis, and Potentilla biennis; or with Populus trichocarpa, Salix spp., and Solidago missouriensis. Gordon S. Whitehead 1510 24 JUL 1978 POACEAE 02862838
