According to Hitchcock and Cronquist this species merges with
P. scabrella. Since I have collected both species within the
study area, there are probably some transitional forms as well.
Voucher: Whitehead, G.S. 1983. M.S., Idaho State U.
Associated with Pinus contorta, Antennaria microphylla and
Thalictrum occidentale; or with Calamagrostis canadensis,
Deschampsia elongata, Elymus glaucus, and Salix spp.
