Moist humus covered soil. Moist wooded depression.

Description
A tough scandent and sprawling shrub; stem crooked or curved, 3/4 in. thick, rigid, branched; the thin sapwood white, otherwise reddish tinged, quite odorless and tasteless; bark relatively thick, smooth and brown and gray mixed, green hypodermis, otherwise testaceous; branchlets short upon the longer and subdrooping main ones, more or less clustered; leaves descending, chartaceous, with recurved apex, slightly paler beneath; inflorescence suberect, stalks green, pedicels and perianth segments brick red; young fruit ovoidly ellipsoid, dark green, as is also the calyx.
