Merostachys
fierra do Divisor (boundary of Brazil and Peru), primary
forest at top of serra with bamboo a.bundant and little
herbaceous vegetation. 8*37* S—73*21* V/. Elev. 650m.
Clumps of up to 50 culms, 8-10m tall, 2 cm diam., many
new purplish shoots at this time. Culm leaves: sheaths
purple, covered vith appressed white hairs; blade purp-
lish-green, horizontal-reflexed. New culm nodes with
white appressed hairs, mature culms dull green.
