Stanislaus Canon above the junction between the main and south
forks, on the westerly slope of the Sierra Nievada, Stanislaus
County, at about 580 m. altitude and near the lower edge of the
Transition Zone.
The plants grow in beds of wet moss on a northerly exposure;
no other plants in this moss, but on surrounding slopes are Erio-
dictyon californieum, Quercus chrysolepis, Q. Wialieenii, and Q. Ke\-
loggii. The species is abundant at places along Stanislaus and
Tuolumne Rivers between 550 m. and 760 m.
