Grounds of Pacific Gas and Electric Company's Diablo
Canyon Nuclear Power Plant. Western end of San Luis Range.
North Ranch, 0.15 miles east from Coast Road on Crowbar
Canyon Road. Vicinity of 35.228°N x 120.8640° W. Canyon
cut into shale parent material. North facing slopes with small
Pinus muricata trees near top of slope and a band of
Vaccinium ovatum below ridgeline. Lower slopes where
plants collected with coastal scrub dominated by Artemisia
califomica plus Baccharis pilularis, Rhamnus crocea, Leymus
condensatus, Hazardia squarrosa, Rubus ursinus et al. Areas
between shrubs dominated by grasses including Poa spp.,
Melica imperfecta, Bromus sp., and Nassella lepida. Shale
outcrops with mosses, Dudleya caespitosa? and various herbs.
South-facing slopes with coastal scrub dominated by
Artemisia califomica, Salvia mellifera, Rhamnus crocea, and
Ceanothus cuneatus with some Dendromecon rigida on upper
slopes. Valley bottom a narrow strip of weedy grassland. Ca.
400 ft. elevation. Locally common on north-facing slope
among shrubs of coastal scrub.
