Description
Tree, 4 m tall. Plants dioecious. Male catkins in all stages of flowering, covered by long, white trichomes (= hairs). Flowers densely placed in catkins (= aments), subtended by a black scale, the stamens likely two per flower, the filaments long, white, the anthers yellow when young. Leaf buds just starting to open. Contrary to what is expected from plants with catkins, species of Calyx are pollinated by insects which are rewarded by nectar.
