In full sun on terrace/floodplain lm above river; in cobble and gravel with Populus fremontii, Salix gooddingi, Fraxinus velutina, Phyla cuneifolia, Ambrosia psilostachya, Hymenothrix loomisii, Grindelia, Xanthisma gracile, Melilotus officinalis, Bouteloua curtipendula, Bouteloua barbata, Gutierrezia sarothrae, Asclepias subverticillata, Artemisia ludoviciana, Amorphafruticosa.
