Paraguay: Department of Canindeyu: Closest Town: Itanara, 19 km N of
Itanara on the Ype Yhu/Capitan Bado Road, Altitude ca 422 m. Latitude
23 deg 37.958'S, Longitude 055 deg 32.210'W. Cerrados to open
grasslands and savannas. Flat Terrain. Soils very sandy. Associated
species new acaulescent Butia sp.
Palm acaulescent, ca. 0.3 m height, tending to grow in groups that look
to be almost clustering. LEAVES 3-4 in crown, spirally arranged and
spreading. Leaf sheath plus petiole is 3-7 cm long, 3-5 mm wide 1-2
mm thick and and a fibrous leaf sheath, adaxially channeled and
abaxially rounded. Leaf rachis 21-34 cm long. 30-57 pairs of leaflets
which are distributed in clusters of 2-3 to single along the rachis in 1 to
2 planes. Basal leaflets 4-11 cm long x 0.1-0.4 cm wide, middle
leaflets 5.5-10 cm long x 0.4-0.7 cm wide, and apical leaflets 1.5-2.7
cm long x 0.1-0.4 cm wide. Androgynous unbranched, spikate
INFLORESCENCE with 9-30 cm long, 2.5-4 mm wide and 1-2 mm
thick peduncle and 3.5-7.5 cm long inflorescence. Peduncular bract with
a total length of 15-25 cm and the expanded or inflated part of the bract
measuring 7-9 cm long x 0.9-2 cm in width and with a 2.4-3.5 cm
perimeter and a 1 mm thickness.
