Norte de Santander: Municipio of Toledo. Vereda Quebrada Grande. On the road from Quebrada Grande to Herran. 2400 m 7° 27.688'N, 72° 31.561'W WGS84 Andean forest. Shrub to 2 m tall forming dense stands as a pioneer in recovery pastures. Inflorescence rachis and hypanthia red. Flowers 4-merous. Petals spreading, lilac but white toward the base. Filaments and style white. Anthers, appendages, and staminodia yellow. Locally common in pastures and roadsides. Monochaetum myrtoideum, M. calvescens, M. stellulatum and M. coronatum were also growing in the area.
