PLANTS OF CALIFORNIA
Ledum glandulosum Nutt.
ERICACEAE
Shrubs 3-7ft tall, abundant. In a scrubby, dwarfed forest
and shrubby savanna on sandy to clayey loam with a
hardpan near the surface (Blacklock and Aborigine
soils, 0 to 5 percent slopes; sandy, mixed, isomesic,
ortstein, shallow Typic Duraquods to fine, mixed,
semiactive, isomesic Typic Albaquults), some exposed
areas of soil whitish, becoming gelatinous when shaken
in the hand and quickly solidifying when vibration
stops (I’ve seen soil similar to this in Hardin Co., TX).
Growing with Carex sp., Gladina portentosa subsp.
pacifica, Cladonia sp., Cupressus pygmaea, Gaultheria
shallon, Myrica californica, Pinus contorta, Pinus
muricata (uncommon) and Vaccinium ovatum. Along
an ATV/dirtbike trail, around 0.15mi W. of Mitchell
Creek Road and about 1.3 mi S of the intersection with
Simpson Lane. Mendocino Co. Elev. 430ft. 39° 22'
