    Herb, 2-3 m high, upper side of leaves shiny green, lower side purple, petiole 40-80 cm long, bracts and calyx green tinged with brown, sepals yellow, outer staminodes pinkish brown, stamen and style yellow, fruit orange, seeds blue.
