CORNACEAE Cornus rugosa Lam.
Common shrubs, to 4 m. tall; stems mostly unbranched
in lower part, to 3 cm. in diameter, yellow-green with
conspicuous lenticels, these purple when young, becoming
dark and warty with age.
Plants in last stages of blooming; flowers odorless;
corolla white.
Mostly on N-facing slopes in forest 15 m. tall on top
of ridge, Populus grandidentata, Acer rubrum, Ostrya
virginiana, Cornus alternifolia, C. racemosa.
