NEW YORK State, Bronx Co., Bronx, along the Metro
North railroad and Southern Blvd., just S of the Mosholu
Parkway bridge, and N of entrance to the New York
Botanical Garden opposite the Metro North railroad station,
in untended patch of woods, partly of spontaneous native
and introduced trees and probably some planted. Fraxinus
americana, Morns alba, Prunus serotina, Quercus
palustris.
40°52’04”N, 73°52’48”W. alt. 22 m.
Shrub with arching stems, the largest one 2.5 m. tall, 2.5
cm. in diameter. Voucher for wood specimen, MADw,
collected 9 April 2011. This same plant collected with
flowers but no leaves 9 April 2011 under no. Nee 57830.
Bark with prominent lenticels. Twigs solid at nodes, the pith
lamellate near the node, hollow elsewhere. Several clumps
of this species, perhaps originally planted, perhaps
naturalized. Only leaves present; some twigs long and
vigorous and some shorter and with smaller leaves.
