ACERACEAE Acer saccharinum L.
Tree 20 m. tall, 1.5 m. in diameter, with two major
trunks dividing near the base. Bark in large flattish
plates and easily removed.
All twigs of tree bearing flowers, those reachable on
lower branches mostly all male. Male flowers with
bracts reddish on outside; calyx and filaments light
yellowish green; anthers olive green.
Common, partly forested floodplain pasture along Pine
River., with Ulmus americana, Acer negundo.
WISCONSIN: Richland Co., 4 miles SE of Richland Center.
