Betulaceae Carpinus betulus L. “Fastigiata’ botanical NpARDE^ NEW YORK BOTANICAL GARDEN New York State, Bronx Co., Bronx, New York Botanical Garden, at edge of Harding Lab. 40°15’56”N, 73°52’50”W. alt. 25 m. “804/60 B PT L 804/60 Hicks Nurseries, Inc.” Tree 10 m. tall, 50 cm. in diameter at the base, branched from near base, the stems often fluted, with smooth, dark gray bark. Inflorescences abundant, hanging, on all but the most shaded branches, pendant, with bracts nearly leaf-green, but somewhat more yellow-green, the bracts 12-15 pairs on the sunny twigs, but the partly shaded twigs may have only 5-6 pairs of bracts; some of most vigorous inflorescences with a few nodes with a vestigial 3rd fruit or this may even be fully developed. Tree very similar in most ways to no. Nee 58116 from the same source and the same age. Coll.: M. Nee 58115 12 Aug. 2011 02477875
